Spider Speedway Game

spider speedway game

This is a cute game for older kids to play with little ones. It’s also a fun way to explore counting.

What you need for 2 Players:
  • 2 Spiders. Download the Free Spider template. Have each player color their Spider, then cut out.
  • crayons, markers and scissors.
  • one pair of dice.
  • 2 pieces of cardboard or poster board. The sides of a shipping box would be perfect.
  • 4 different sheets of construction paper, each sheet a different color. Fold each sheet into quarters, cut and separate. You’ll have16 pieces total, with 4 pieces for each color.
  • For each additional player, you’ll need 1 Spider and 2 pieces of construction paper.

How to play:

  • Using the cardboard as a game board, lay out two separate “roadways.” First, choose two colors for the first Spider (8 pieces total). Alternate the construction paper pieces on the Poster Board from top to bottom to create your roadway; tape the paper pieces in place. Make the other roadway alongside the first roadway in the same manner, using up the other 8 pieces of construction paper.
  • Make a “Starting Place” and a “Finish Line” sign. Place all the Spiders at the Starting Place on the board.
  • Let the first player roll the dice. Add the numbers, and count the spaces for that Spider. Take turns rolling the dice and counting the spaces.
  • The first Spider to cross the “Finish Line” is the Speediest!
When you have finished racing, recycle everything again! Keep the poster board and the construction paper in your craft supplies. Use your Spider as a scrapbook keepsake, or as a decoration, or as a special piece of art to send to a Grandparent.
