Scarf Craft
Here is
a great craft for older kids or teens (or
younger kids with adult assistance) to make
for themselves or to give out as presents.
Materials:
Solid colored scarves or shawls or felt
fabric (available in fabric stores) that
can be cut into long pieces for each scarf
(approximate size: 54" long x 18"-24"
wide, depending on the bolt size).
- For Decoration:
- Old buttons or beads
- Extra decorative
swatches of felt from a craft or fabric
store (most stores usually have a good
supply of pre-cut pieces in 12" x
12" squares that are available in
a bright spectrum of colors)
- Sewing needles and
white (optional for the older kids)
- Scissors
- Elmer’s glue or
fabric glue
Directions:
If you are making your own scarf out of
a long piece of felt, cut out the desired
length and then cut long, even strips on
either end to create the fringe.
Print out the
snowman
template and cut out all the
shapes from the scraps of colored felt.
Shown in the photo are white circles for
the body, brown Y shapes for the arms, green
felt for the scarf, orange for the nose
and black for the hat.
Assemble the
shapes into position, with the white circles
overlapping one another and the biggest
one on the bottom, and glue down.
Glue black pony
beads (or any other big beads, buttons or
sequins) for the eyes, mouth and buttons
on the body.
For older kids
who know how to sew, use white thread and
stitch along the center of the arms and
scarf and along the edges of the hat. May
also stitch along the white outline of the
body. |
