Holiday Glove Craft

The
Great Glove Get-together
While you are
planning your Holiday get-togethers, here
is an idea that is really fun to share with
kids from 7 to 12 (or really just about
any age if adults are available to help).
This craft is
fun and really simple. All you need is inexpensive
gloves (they don't even have to match!),
fabric that is easy to cut, and some old
jewelry that needs a new life. You can also
use scraps of old clothing and buttons.
Anyway you do this, it is a blast and the
more people you have, the merrier your holiday
get-togethers will be.
Gloves are a gift that just about everybody
uses. Our Get-Together Gloves are a nice
gift for grandparents, and are so easy that
they're great for crafting anywhere. How
about sharing your ideas with residents
of nursing homes, or making gloves to raise
money for your favorite charitable cause?
Materials:
Several pairs of plain Gloves or Mittens
Pieces of felt, old scarves or worn clothes
Scraps of decorative fabric
Old buttons and jewelry
Needle and thread
Scissors and Glue
Directions:
Sketch an idea based on the Holiday (Christmas,
Chanukah, Kwanzaa or just a design for someone
special).
Cut out small
pieces of fabric or felt based on your idea.
For example, white antlers from an old athletic
sock and a red button would make great Reindeer
Mittens! Adults should supervise (or maybe
do) the cutting and sewing.
Glue or sew your
cutouts to your gloves. Sew on buttons or
old jewelry for some serious sparkle. Use
matching thread to hide your stitches, or
use contrasting thread to make your stitches
stand out. You can stitch with embroidery
floss or yard for a dramatic effect. Just
remember to sew only to the top of the glove,
or you'll close the opening!
