Fourth of July Rockets

Blast
off with Style (this is easy for kids to
make!)
Materials:
Posterboard
Red and Blue Construction Paper
Drinking Straws
Aluminum Foil
Glue and Tape
Scissors (only to be used with an adult
present)
A Basket or Container to attach Rocket Art
Cut out
a square of posterboard that is whatever
size you need
to cover your container (such as a basket).
For this picture a piece 8'' x 8" was
used.
Take that piece and cover in Aluminum foil,
tape the loose ends in the back. Set aside.
For the larger Rockets: Cut
pieces of Posterboard that are roughly 6"
x 6" long and roll into tubes. Tape
and cover with aluminum foil. For the top
of the Rocket, cut a piece that is long
and narrow, approximately 3" x 7"
and bring the ends together so that they
form a pointed top. Cut the left over ends
off, so that you have a top for the Rocket.
Cover in Aluminum Foil.
Put the covered tube into the pointed top
of the rocket, glue the pieces together
and secure with a bit of tape, let dry.
For the smaller Rockets:
Cut the straws in half. Cover in aluminum
foil. Cut smaller points for the head of
the Rocket the same way you did
for the bigger Rocket. Cover in aluminum
foil.
Here is a tip for the
gluing of the smaller tops:
Because it is a little more difficult to
tape the top of the little rockets, take
a small piece of tissue, tape to the top
of the straw Rocket. Cover generously with
glue and put the top on, allow to dry.
Cut out lots of star shapes
with posterboard and cover in aluminum foil.
Cut out long strips of red and blue contruction
paper. Crimp by folding back and forth,
then tape all the crimped pieces to the
long piece (1" x 5") and when
full of long crimped pieces, insert into
the Rocket, glue and let dry. Add stars
for sparkle.
Finally, assemble the final
design with tape and glue.
This is really fun to make!
The kids will love what they bring to this
final design. Grown-ups love it too!
