After
School Project is a national program of The
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) which focuses
on bringing young people, living in low-income
neighborhood, together with responsible adults
to be part of quality programs during out-of-school
time.
www.afterschool.gov
is a clearinghouse of federal resources that support
out-of-school time providers, programs and advocates.
Information is also available to assist parents
in understanding issues children and adolescents
face, or fund, start and operate an after school
program. This site provides access to government
resources supporting afterschool programs.

NAA is the national membership organization for
the profession and is comprised of state affiliates.
The National School-Age Care Alliance (NSACA),
was founded in 1987 and was recently renamed as
National AfterSchool Association (NAA). NAA offers
school-age care specialists training, hosts an
annual conference, provides resource, sets forth
national guidelines and standards, and oversees
an accreditation process for school-age care programs.

National
Institute on Out-of School Time (NIOST) is
part of the Center for Research on Women of Wellesley
College, Massachusetts. Their work has promoted
the afterschool field through research, education,
training, consulting, and field building.
Projects involve collaboration and have affected
such areas as development of first national standards
in afterschool programs which has been used as
a basis for National Improvement and Accreditation
System and NAA. Their website has a wealth of
information helpful to anyone who cares about
children.

"listserv" is an electronic discussion
list joining e-mail users in a world-wide discussion
of issues in school-age care. This discussion
list is for anybody interested in school-age care
planning, resources, activities, funding, staff
and staff development, and related subjects. SAC-L
is co-owned by the National Institute on Out-of-School
Time (NIOST) (formerly the School-Age Child Care
Project) at the Center for Research on Women at
Wellesley College and by the Early Childhood and
Parenting (ECAP) Collaborative at the University
of Illinois.

NOTES is the leading supplier of resource
material and training information in the field
of afterschool programming for the school-age
child. School-Age NOTES offers a newsletter filled
with articles, tips, strategies and wonderful
ideas for activities available through subscription.
Their catalog is filled with outstanding resources
including some of their own titles. The company
also provides training throughout the country
with author tours.

Please note there are many organizations working
directly with children with afterschool programming.
These include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Big Brothers/Big
Sisters of America, Boys and Girls Clubs of America,
National 4-H Youth Council, YMCA of the USA, YMCA
of the USA, Campfire Girls, Junior Achievement.
There are others as well that deal with children
in general but not necessarily focusing solely
on afterschool.
