Charity and Community Playdates

Children are naturally sensitive and caring. They are non-judgemental and concerned citizens. Introducing them to charitable causes empowers them to realize that they can make a difference in someone else's life.

When you have a PlayDate and use this time to focus on an activity where children make something special for another child or family, you are teaching them to give back to the community.

Both Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops are very active in teaching children how to give back to the community. When you host a Charity PlayDate, you can either target a group of girls or boys, or bring them together to share in some of the following types of activities:

  • Creatively decoupage or paint a sturdy old table or chair to make a beautiful piece of furniture.
  • Have children bring out-grown clothing in good condition that can be donated to shelters.
  • Have the children put together kits of crayons, paper and stickers for kids who are in the hospital.
  • Have kids plant pots with flowers or seeds to give as gifts to older adults at Senior Centers.
  • Go to a Senior Center and have the kids talk about what games they play and what games the Seniors played when they were children.
  • Have children offer to help some elderly neighbors with yard work.
  • Have a neighborhood car wash in summer and raise money to be donated to a cause.
